Wolves and other predators aren't responsible for putting Bighorn sheep at risk: humans are!

Our friends at Wolf Awareness Inc. uncovered disturbing information: the government of British Columbia is killing wolves, coyotes and other predators to try and keep up the numbers of Bighorn sheep in a few ranges. What makes this even more unsettling is that their own data reports don't listen predators as a risk to the population, but very clearly states habitat loss, livestock ranching, and harassment by the public are the problems.

And to put even more pressure on the Bighorn sheep in the populations identified as vulnerable, those right next to them are allowed to be hunted! Subject: Stop killing wolves and listen to scientists

Message:

The government must immediately take steps to both end the hunting, trapping or culling of wolves and coyotes (as well as other meso-predators and predators) in Big Horn Sheep ranges, curb hunting of Big Horn Sheep in sensitive and sensitive-adjacent habitats, and look to its own data on what is influencing big horn sheep populations. The Vancouver Sun reported: "The B.C. Conservation Data Centre identifies primary threats to the species as habitat loss, livestock ranching and harassment by the public. Bighorn sheep are also vulnerable to stress and stress-related disease and predators are not mentioned as threats in the centre's 2015 conservation status report." It is well documented that removal of predators, even in a managed effort, can have unpredictable deleterious impacts on ecosystems and create greater conflict where it did not or minimal conflict existed. I expect more from a government that formed largely on environmental issues. Please advise what steps you will take to end this poor policy before more animals are needlessly killed, and the ecosystem further disrupted.
